How it works & limitations

Where the norms come from

The tables are internal reference ranges compiled from published sport-science sources (NSCA testing chapters, JSCR team-sport studies and sport-specific field-test literature). They are athlete reference ranges, not a validated population ranking, and are the same tables BounceLab uses inside its assessment reports.

Age is not part of this table

These sport norms are sex-specific but not age-specific. Youth athletes often fall below adult reference values while still improving normally; masters athletes should compare against their own trend more than against open-age sport tables. If you are 15–18 or 35+, read the percentile as context, not a grade.

Which metric should you test?

For vertical jump ability, use CMJ as the primary metric. Add broad jump for horizontal power, relative squat for the strength reserve that predicts jump height, and 30 m sprint for acceleration context. Test one protocol consistently — same shoes, surface, warm-up and device — and re-test every 4–6 weeks.

How to read the percentile

P50 is the median of that sport-and-sex reference group; P75 means you are at or above three quarters of the reference sample. Because these are athlete samples, recreational adults will usually land lower than they expect — that is normal and simply means there is more trainable headroom.

What is a good vertical jump?

It depends on sport and sex. As an athlete reference, male basketball and volleyball players often average a CMJ near 50-60 cm, while female players average near 35-45 cm. A general adult population scores lower. Enter your sport and sex in the calculator for a more precise percentile.

What is a good standing broad jump?

Trained male team-sport athletes often jump roughly 2.3-2.6 m and trained females 1.8-2.1 m. The number varies by sport, so use the sport-specific table rather than a single cutoff, and treat your own 8-12 week trend as the main score.

Are these vertical jump norms age-specific?

No. The reference tables are sport- and sex-specific but not age-specific. Youth athletes often score below adult references while developing normally, and masters athletes should prioritize their own trend over open-age tables.
