How it works & limitations
Why relative strength matters for jumpers
Jumping is a power-to-weight sport: moving the same absolute weight means more when your body is lighter, and adding bodyweight without adding strength usually does not help you jump. Relative strength removes bodyweight from the comparison so you can see whether strength is actually improving. The ratio also changes when bodyweight changes. If your 1RM stays at 140 kg but you drop from 80 kg to 75 kg, your squat ratio rises from 1.75x to 1.87x - the same absolute strength now expresses more relative strength.
